So I think it’s fair to say that I’ve struggled to swing
into 2018 like I did with the previous year.
However, in fairness, 2017 essentially was already set-up for the
various releases due to come out as “Malt Disnae”, “And So the Fish Gave Away
the Hook”, and “The Birds and The Breeze…” had all been written, recorded, and
completed more or less during 2016.
Either way, I’ve
felt a bit down about everything as I like having a number of wee projects on
the go, and it always tests my morale when I’m just chipping away at things
with no real purpose.
The past couple
of weeks however have seen a number of wee things change, and my rambling ideas
have started to make a bit more sense.
So, per my poetry, I’ve decided to work on Apple Fire which will be the
third release of that strange collection that is all titled with various
elements associated with combustion and fruit; essentially, they’re made up of
all my old poems which I’ve tried to tart up as practise per the poetry course I
completed the other year.
I originally
thought that all the books, i.e. Cherry Coal, Pear Kindling, Apple Fire and
Peach Embers would ultimately provide the material for new pieces of flash
fiction or short stories but now, I’ve decided that the pieces from Apple Fire
and Peach Embers will be driven from portrait paintings I’ve completed based on
people that popped into my head, and had a justifiable vibe per the original
poem.
It’s a good
feeling to know how different areas of my work are going to tie in with each other,
and that when I sit down to progress each part, I have an end goal which in my
head is interesting and will be a fun journey to share as I go.
I never want to
not write poetry, but sometimes my time just slips away into other creative
endeavours. It’s an age old complaint of
humans to rue over how little time we have, so I’m delighted that I’ve managed
to link in two of my favourite things to do in life so that they vibe of each
other, and allow me to keep honing away at both crafts.
Anyhoo…I think
that’s all my thoughts on this captured now; my mind feels sufficiently less
cluttered and free to actually go ahead and start work on this wee ongoing project
properly.
So aye, time to
go finish painting Jack Kerouac who will then, once finished, be used to bring
my poem “Second Hand Opinions” to a satisfactory and hopefully interesting
conclusion.
BRAW!!
